Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (impaired collagen synthesis)
Case Presentation
A 27-year-old female patient suffering from Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, who attended due to mechanical lumbosciatalgia. History of several corrective hip operations in childhood leaving keloid scar.
I present the case more than because of the current pain because it meets the criteria and typical symptoms of this syndrome characterized by:
- Scarring disorders (keloid).
- Back pain.
- Ligamentous hypermobility.
- Dermal hyperlaxity, with a soft and fragile appearance with a predisposition to ecchymosis.
- Flatfoot.
- Increased joint mobility, crunching sounds in the joints.
- History of joint dislocation.
- Corneal deformations (myopia)
- Joint hypermobility.
- Alterations in the mitral valve (in this case low-grade prolapse).
- Periodontitis.
- Joint pain.
Diagnosis of Ehlers Dandlos type III confirmed by altered lysyl oxidase/lysyl hydroxylase activity. She is being treated for her back pain and checked by cardiology.
