Any thoughts on this spot? Found on a 40yo M rt shoulder.

Mole that changed in character, then developed a "dent" in the skin beside it.
This lady in her 40s has had a longstanding brown mole on her left elbow. A year ago, it swelled, enlarged, and went purple in color (like a blood blister). 6 months ago, she noticed a "dent" in the skin beside it. Looks like a pale scar, but on palpation, feels like a dent right into the underlying muscle. She has a family history of melanoma. She denies any injury. Apologies for quality of photos. The close up is particularly blurred, but I attached it as it showed the color better. I have referred her to dermatology, but would appreciate people's thoughts.
