Case Overview

26 year old female. Consulted for filling on the lower posterior teeth. Known epileptic on Carbamazepine for the past year. Noted that she has been experiencing frequent seizures in the recent past and lost teeth due to the falls as a result.

On Examination:

• Poor oral hygiene
• Calculus deposits
• Gingivitis
• Overgrowth of the gingiva on the retromolar pad area & on the palatial area in the tuberosity area.
• Differential dx: Drug induced gingival hyperplasia

Finding:

• Occlusal caries on 37, 38, 47, 48.
• Missing teeth

Treatment plan:

1. Restore the caries on the respective teeth
2. Oral hygiene instruction (OHI) & scaling & polish.
3. Referral to a periodontist for management of the gingival hyperplasia.
