Had a case this morning a 60 y.o male IFT for peg placement with an LVAD. This came to mind.
Don't Panic
- NO CPR
- No palpable pulses
- Sometimes hard to obtain BP or none
- Auscultate over the apex of the heart; listen for active motor or clicks if lost or no sounds.
- Patient should have a card for HCP to contact their device rep who can guide you further.
When in doubt, Transport.....
Any other experience or input on a patient in cardiac arrest with an LVAD? What more can EMS do to manage this patient?
