Patient of 60 years old with type II diabetes since 15 years ago that presents to the consult because of the appearance of black stains in the tongue since 3 years ago.

A black tongue. HIV negative. Healthy 35 year old non smoker.

This healthy six week old breast-fed infant has adherent black spots on the tongue. Sorry the picture is upside down. Could this be from maternal Iron supplementation? Persisted several weeks. Swabs grew no fungus. No antibiotics or Pepto-Bismol involved.
