F 5 months pregnant presents to the Pharmacy with swelling on the right hand accompanied by moderate to severe pain of 4 days. Condition started 3 hours after an attempted IV injection of Gentamicin on the cannulated hand (prescribed by her Physician, when she complained of vaginal itching). Initially swelling was present with itching but no pain. The itching subsided after 24 hours with the development of blisters on the cannulated area and pain.
Her Physician diagnosed her of cellulitis and started her on Ceftriaxone/Sulbactam 1.5g bd and Augmentin 625mg bd. She's had 2 days treatment. She was also prescribed Reparil gel and later Lidocaine gel.
A mild reduction in swelling with no significant reduction in pain.
