Blood Case Discussion

Description: Blood drawn from an overweight child. Am I seeing FOUR layers in the tube? I know there is a lipid layer.

Why you should join Figure 1

Similar cases:

Two distinct layers in a plasma sample. Blood/plasma/serum appears very viscous. Normal kidney function, calcium, total protein. Hgb < 8 g/dl, plts normal, wbc 10k/ul. Appears iron deficient by rbc indices ( iron studies pending ).

Case Description: 37 yo Af American female presented with bilateral DVTs and PEs. Coag work-up only shows slightly elevated PT ab. Is this significant? Trying to figure out if pt will need lifelong anticoagulation. She has heavy menstrual bleeding at the time of the PE (initial Hgb was 6.2!) and I would like to get her off Xarelto if possible. Thanks.
