Congenital diaphragmatic hernia

Chest radiograph before (image 1) and after (image 2) repair of a left-sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia. The congenital diaphragmatic hernia is visible with air-filled loops of bowel (arrow) within the left hemithorax. After repair, there is a hydropneumothorax. This is expected after surgery and resorbed with time as the lung becomes more aerated and the effusion decreases.
