Age: 24 years
Sex: Female
Site: Esophagus
Procedure: Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) with biopsy
Clinical history: 24-year-old female with ulcerative colitis and celiac disease who has been on Humira for 4 years and except for a recent flare with some diarrhea had been doing well. She developed episodes of RUQ pain and intractable nausea. EGD showed stomach full of bezoar and undigested food.
Gross description: Endoscopy:
White plaques or sloughing membranes. Typically form a cast of esophageal lumen. Also erosions/ulcers, bleeding, webs, longitudinal tears/fissures, circumferential breaks/cracks, esophagitis
Similar cases
Male pt, 79 yo, presented with obscure GI bleeding and unintended body weight loss. EGD shows no pathology related to OGIB besides the esophageal finding and gastric ulcer. SBCE shows a protruding mass in the jejunum and some white matter.
This is the end result of a gastrojejunostomy secondary to a bleeding ulcer in the first portion of the duodenum.
53 year old male with known back pain treated with NSAIDS. He collapsed and was later resuscitated during an EGD for a bleeding ulcer.
Axial contrast-enhanced chest CT shows massive esophageal varices, a common cause of severe upper GI bleeding in children.
