50 y/o AA M admitted to ICU 2 days ago d/t respiratory failure. Pt’s urine output continued to decrease and his foley was requiring q1h irrigation for even the smallest amount of output. I was finally able to convince the doctor to let me switch out the foley for a larger diameter, and this is what the tip looked like upon removal. Pt had moderate bloody discharge from his penis after this removal. Once the larger diameter catheter was in place, large chunks of hard sediment came flooding out.
