28y/o/f called EMS after cutting into finger with rotary sewing machine. Initial injury followed by suturing during and after in the ED.

49 year old otherwise healthy male presented to the ED after a wood working accident involving a power wood planing tool. The injury involved soft tissues on 90% of the medial side of the index finger on the left hand. Pt got finger slammed in closing door. Nail completely severed, fracture to distal phalanx. Required stitches in nail bed and severed nail put back in place to maintain space for new nail to grow in. Four days Post-Op, failed flexor tendon repair. Flexor recessed into palm. Repair was attempted six weeks after injury. Tendon could not be pulled to length and was removed. Initial dx was fx of fingertip only.
