Melanoma, an aggressive skin cancer resulting from the malignant transformation of melanocytes, was once considered uncommon. Now, the annual incidence is rising faster than any other malignancy, more than doubling in the U.S in the past 30 years. Australia and New Zealand claim the world’s highest incidence of melanoma, though the extensive skin cancer screening program in Australia has helped to decrease the average tumor depth at the time of diagnosis. This patient presented with anemia secondary to bleeding from these cutaneous melanomatous metastases. Image credit: @a_sh
