chronic nonhealing surgical wound for approximately four years. Position informed patient to apply Neosporin to area and cover with dry sterile dressing prior to application of colostomy wafer. Any suggestions on treatment options? Our wound care nurse had suggested calcium alginate to help wound dry as it is very wet
Similar cases
Sent to wound clinic for painful ulcer of 8 weeks. Started as a cut but got bigger and more painful. Otherwise healthy. Treating with Neosporin.
63 y/o male, had an arthrodesis 4 month ago, having a local redness near the wound, not swollen, very slight serous exudate, no warmth and very itchy. Pt is applying a dressing since the humidity seems to help with the itchiness. doesnt seem like typical cellutitis.
Neosporin allergy
3 yo M with history of eczema is brought in by his mother for recent widespread worsening. She had stopped topical steroids several weeks ago because she thought it was looking infected and began applying Neosporin to the lesions. His skin continued to worsen. I told her to stop the Neosporin because it may be worsening this rash. Any thoughts on other avenues to pursue with this child? (He has not been to a dermatologist yet.) Thanks!
