Follow up to the athletic 42 year old male 6 weeks s/p CRPP of a chronic right ring finger bony mallet.

Pins were removed at 4 weeks.

He is in OT. He has some mild PIPJ and DIPJ stiffness but doing well.

Most of these I treat nonop. This is the first one I have pinned in a long time.

Follow up to the 21 year old male police officer with a comminuted intraarticular left small finger metacarpal base fracture after a low energy impact from a training baton. He is also deficient in Vitamin D.
We decided to treat this with surgery due to the shortening, displacement, and Intra-articular pattern with the goal of obtaining length, alignment, and rotation. With his poor bone quality and comminution, I did not want to open this fracture.
He had a closed reduction with percutaneous pinning. He was placed on Vitamin D supplementation. Pins were removed at 4 weeks with a gradual return to weight bearing and hand therapy. He healed well with normal return to function.
Do any of you have a favorite cocktail of Vitamin D replacement? Does it depend on what is on your pharmacy/hospital formulary?
