### Malpositioned feeding tube

Chest x-ray shows a malpositioned feeding tube entering the left mainstem bronchus before doubling back upon itself and entering the right lower lobe bronchi. Due to the deep position of this feeding tube, it must be retracted with caution to prevent lung injury. When placing a tube fluoroscopically, it is helpful to watch the tube in the chest to see that it extends below the level of the carina to ensure that it is within the esophagus.

This is considered a critical finding and must be communicated directly to the ordering provider and verbal confirmation of understanding is required.](https://app.figure1.com/case-detail/10fc17a4-12b2-4387-8607-141eb6e2559c)
