Case Summary

Incidental finding in the 59-year old woman with 3 days history of LLQ abdominal pain, fever up to 38 degrees C, up to 5 bowel movements with not completely formed stool with mucus. She has a history of surgical removal of colonic benign neoplasm which manifested with bowel perforation.

I made the provisional diagnosis of diverticulitis and possible Peutz-Jeghers syndrome which would explain mucous changes seen on pictures and benign neoplasm of colon which was removed few years ago. The patient was referred to the surgeon.

1. 23 yo female with severe abdominal pain

   An #Intussusception is found (portion of small bowel telescoping into the large bowel) and the right colon is removed for examination.

2. 69 year old male with bowel obstruction

   Underwent exploratory surgery to find obstruction, which was found in the colon. Pathology came back as stage 3 c3 cancer of the colon.

3. Paediatric patient with short gut syndrome

   Age three years with only 22-27cm of bowel and had to remove swallowed marble through Laparoscopy.

4. AP abdominal radiograph and CT

   Shows pneumatosis involving the ascending colon with teaching points about benign pneumatosis intestinalis.
