Main Case Content
This baby from Guyana was evacuated to hospital 12 days after receiving extensive burns. Prior to transport the burns were dressed with leaves from medicinal plants. Access to healthcare is challenging for indigenous populations living in remote areas with poor infrastructure. They are disproportionately affected by poor maternal and child health, water-borne diseases, malaria, HIV/AIDS, and snakebites. Guyana also lacks physicians: in 2010-2011 there were 2.1 physicians per 10,000 population compared to 24.2 physicians in the U.S. Image Credit: @ck91104
