54 year old Chinese man presenting for new onset large float | Figure 1
Case Analysis
54-year-old Chinese man presenting for new onset large floater OD x 1 week. He's a high myope at ~ -7. He has a hx of gout, hypercholesterolemia, hypothyroidism with medications for all 3 conditions (he doesn't know the names though).
BCVA is 20/20 od and os. His floater was a PVD but baseline OCT found intraretinal fluid along the inferotemporal vein OD (see OCT). It's not obvious on DFE (no blood or obvious elevation) and all I see is some mild venous dilation.
I consulted a mentor in Retina and was advised that it may be a myopic macular schisis and as long as it's asymptomatic and not progressing it can be monitored.
Plan is to monitor in 1 month. If stable, follow up in 6 months or 1 year.
Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated as I have not seen this condition before.
