History of abscess in left breast 7 years ago.
Metallic image in left breast visible on mammography.
Is there any relationship between the abscess and this metallic image? If not, what could this image be?
Update 1
From the image presented, there is a hyperdense focus, of high attenuation (metallic aspect), well delimited, projecting on the left mammary parenchyma, without a typical pattern of grouped dystrophic calcifications.
In general, breast abscesses do not leave residual metallic material. However, they may be indirectly related if, during treatment, some invasive procedure occurred, such as:
- Surgical drainage with drainage placement
- Guided biopsy or puncture
- Open surgery to clean the cavity
In these situations, a metal clip, surgical marker or even rare residual material (e.g. needle fragment, metal wire) may have been left, which would explain this finding.
