Hypothalamic hamartoma | Figure 1

Hypothalamic hamartoma

Sagittal (image 1) and axial (image 2) T1-weighted and coronal T1-weighted postcontrast (image 3) MRI show a hypothalamic hamartoma (arrow). The normal pituitary (arrowhead) is shown nearby. Hypothalamic hematomas are nonprogressive tumors that grow in proportion to the normal brain. Symptoms typically occur in childhood and include central precocious puberty or gelastic seizures.

Axial FLAIR (image 1) and sagittal T1 FLAIR MRI images show a hypothalamic hamartoma (arrow). Patients with these lesions classically present with gelastic or laughing seizures. Hypothalamic hamartomas may also cause symptoms such as precocious puberty or behavioral and cognitive difficulties. On imaging, hypothalamic hamartomas are isointense to gray matter on T1-weighted images and hyperintense on T2-weighted images, without enhancement after contrast administration.](https://app.figure1.com/case-detail/04bb4529-3517-4a0b-b800-ff5f349700ff)

Axial T1-weighted (image 1) and axial T1-weighted postcontrast (image 2) MR images highlighting the malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (arrow). MRI features that can be used to help differentiate a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor from a plexiform neurofibroma include loss of a target appearance on T2-weighted images, inherent T1 hyperintense signal, and heterogeneous enhancement. #FridayQuizDay #FridayQuiz](https://app.figure1.com/case-detail/304ea612-225e-4376-ae4f-025ab7d3a528)

Axial CT (image 1), axial T2-weighted (image 2), axial T1-weighted (image 3), and axial T1-weighted postcontrast (image 4) MRI shows a large heterogeneous tumor involving the left posterior parietal lobe. The tumor was diagnosed as a glioneuronal tumor. Glioneuronal tumors are heterogeneous with solid and cystic areas. Calcification and hemorrhage are common.](https://app.figure1.com/case-detail/5a27dde6-743a-479c-8594-7e6f80accc75)
