Case Report
Description: bisected #Kidney showing a large #Renal-cell-carcinoma (orange arrow). The main mass is pushing on and displacing the renal pelvis, but does not appear to invade into it. The blue arrow points to a possible satellite tumor which does appear to focally involve the pelvis. Normal kidney tissue can be seen both superior and inferior to the main tumor.

#Nephrectomy for large, cystic #Renal-cell-carcinoma: 1st pic - blue arrow shows normal-appearing kidney, black arrow shows obvious tumor visible from the outside. 2nd pic - bivalved view of "normal" looking portion of kidney. Blue arrow points to uninvolved kidney tissue and black arrow is the mass which takes up the vast majority of the kidney. 3rd pic - cut surface of cystic aspect of mass. You can see the tissue is all necrotic inside of the cystic space. Arrow shows that all of the tissue is involved by tumor and if you look closely, you can see the thin, white renal capsule running along the outer edge. It appears this mass started in the lower pole and grew outward in both directions. Unsure how long this has been growing but it is >20cm and, surprisingly, the patient is only in her 40s.
Invasive urothelial carcinoma renal pelvis
Slice of an enucleated renal cell carcinoma from the kidney. Arrow shows tumor. Brown tissue superior is uninvolved clear margin of kidney.
Bivalved #Kidney showing a very bizarre presentation of a #Renal-cell-carcinoma. The tumor appears to have started at the very edge of the cortex and grew outward. You can see the small point of attachment of the tumor to the kidney and you can see a thin capsule surrounding the tumor as well. Blue points to normal kidney (except for some benign-appearing cysts) and orange points to the large mass.
