What study should be ordered prior to this patient's major elective surgery?

A 70 year old male presents for follow up of right knee osteoarthritis. He has failed conservative management at this point and is interested in pursuing a total knee arthroplasty. Review of his chart demonstrates a history of type II diabetes which the patient reports he has controlled for the last 10 years through a vegan diet. His most recent HA1C 2 months ago is 6.2. Given this history, what other study should be pursued to ensure the patient is ready for major elective surgery?
