Findings from the global AVA-PED-301 trial suggest avatrombopag may offer a safer, more convenient treatment option for children with chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). In this randomized study of 75 patients aged 1–17, avatrombopag led to sustained platelet responses in 28% of participants vs. 0% with placebo. Over 80% of avatrombopag-treated patients met secondary platelet count goals. Mild side effects were most common, with no severe bleeding or thrombosis reported. With favorable safety and oral administration, avatrombopag may fill a key gap in pediatric ITP care.
