Crohn Disease With Colovesicular Fistula | Figure 1
Crohn Disease With Colovesicular Fistula
Image description
Coronal postcontrast T1-weighted (image 1) and T2-weighted (image 2) MRI show colonic inflammation (arrow) with a fistulous tract (arrowhead) extending to the dome of the urinary bladder. The bladder wall is focally thickened at the site of fistula insertion.
Teaching point
Colovesicular fistulas are an uncommon complication of Crohn disease and result from chronic transmural inflammation. MRI is well suited for delineating fistula anatomy and bladder involvement and can explain urinary symptoms such as recurrent infections or pneumaturia.
