Description

Axial CT of the head (image 1) shows a partially calcified mass (arrow) bordering the atrium of the left lateral ventricle. Axial FLAIR (image 2), T1-weighted postcontrast (image 3), and axial T2 weighted (image 4) MRI show the heterogeneous partially calcified and enhancing tumor (arrow) centered at the junction of the left cingulate and hippocampal gyri. At resection, this was found to be a ganglioglioma. Gangliogliomas are low grade tumors with a heterogeneous mixed cystic and solid appearance. BRAF mutations are present in up to 60% of patients. This mutation historically has led to portions of rival for pediatric patients with a low-grade glioma.
