Radiographs of the foot in a child with recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa shows a sock deformity of the toes. Patients with this severe form of epidermolysis bullosa have repeated skin injuries which leads to epithelialization and scar formation causing the mitten configuration of the hands and sock configuration of the feet. Epidermolysis bullosa is caused by the decreased or absent collagen within the skin.
A 14 days old girl was born at term via uncomplicated vaginal delivery. On day 3 of life she developed a blister on her finger, the blister was oozing a yellow discharge and quickly ulcerated and became larger. Subsequently, she developed numerous other blisters throughout her body that ulcerate as shown in the attached pictures. Vital signs and laboratory tests are all within normal limits. What is the most likely diagnosis?
