There is an outbreak of Rift Valley fever (RVF) in Kenya. Be sure to ask patients about any upcoming travel, and advise travelers to Kenya to avoid contact with infected animals such as cattle, buffalo, sheep, goats, and camels, and to prevent mosquito bites. Also consider RVF when treating patients returning from Kenya; symptoms of RVF are generally mild and may include fever, weakness, back pain, dizziness, and weight loss. Some people may present with more serious illness, such as severe bleeding, swelling of the brain, or eye disease.
